Self Portraits 2-25-10

One of my New Year's resolution is to get in front of the camera more often. So yesterday, I did just that! This was my first attempt at self portraits and I have to admit, it was not as easy as I thought it would be! Trying to figure out a way to focus the camera when I am not there was my first obstacle. The lighting was also pretty tricky; I situated myself next to a window and used a reflector to add light where needed. The problem is that I can't see where my face is going to be so I can only approximate and hope that there will be enough light! Finally, it is difficult to pose for the camera, not knowing what you look like. When I photograph someone, I usually let them know to put their chin down, to smile a little more, not to tuck their chin too much (to prevent the double-chin effect), etc... Having no one to "direct" me, there was a lot of horrible expressions!
Overall, I think that my first try was OK. I managed to capture a few decent photographs that I am not too embarrassed to post here and on Facebook! And next time it should be alittle easier to do... hopefully!
