A Few of my Favorite Pictures-Week of 9/28/09

Here are a few of my favorite photos from last week end. The first picture is from soccer. Christina and her friend Sara were at the field a little early and rested in the shade while waiting for the rest of the team. The other photos are of Nicholas skimboarding at Venice Beach on Sunday. He has been skimboarding for a few years now and is definitely getting better. In fact, he has asked for a new and better skimboard for his birthday!

A Few of my Favorite Pictures-Week of 9/21/09

Last week I started a post titled: "A Few of my Favorite Pictures". And I promised to post my favorite photos from the weekend every Wednesday. Unfortunately, I was so busy this week that I am only getting a chance to post my favorites tonight! So, here they are, starting with Anthony's soccer team, the "Radioactive"!

Free kicks can be scary for the kids forming a wall...

Christina's Pineapple Strikers played great and had a lot of fun!
This is what I enjoy the most; capturing the smiles!

And then Sunday afternoon, we went to the beach with some friends who brought surfboards. The boys had to try and of course got up pretty quickly!Thank you Trevor and his family for letting Nicholas and Anthony try out surfing for the first time!

Of course, this weekend, I also took some great photos during the VUSC Family Portrait Fundraiser. To see my favorites from this event, check out yesterday's post.
Well, this is it for this week!

VUSC Family Portrait Fundraiser off to a good start!

The Valley United Soccer Club Family Portrait Fundraiser is off to a good start with the Edick family and the Mullins family taking part in last Sundays shoot. Thank you to both families for your contribution and I hope you had a good portrait session. Here are a few of my favorites from these two sessions:

THE EDICK FAMILY

MOM & DAD

BRIAN & JEN

BRIAN
JEN
Thank you Jen for your contribution and I hope that you and your family are enjoying your beautiful portraits!

The Mullins family used this opportunity to get Veronica's Senior Portraits done. Veronica has been my model for a few of my school assignments and has always graciously followed my directions. But this time, I wanted this session to be about Veronica. We met a the park and walked around, stopping for a few shots here and there and talking about her plans for the future. Here are some of my favorite shots:

VERONICA

There are 2 more Sundays left for this fundraiser, Sundays, October 4th and October 11th. And there are still a few openings left on both days. So hurry up and make your reservations quickly and take advantage of this special pricing! And remember, all money goes to Valley United Soccer Club and your booking fee is tax deductible!

A Few of my Favorite Pictures-Week of 9/14/09

So I have decided to start this new blog post titled: A few of my favorite pictures. Every Wednesday, I will post photographs I have taken over the weekend. These could be from soccer games, family portrait sessions, or just while with the family. For me, it's a reason to hurry up and edit all the photos I took over the weekend. Sometimes, there are so many (especially when there is a soccer tournament) that it's hard for me to get started. So I have set a goal: to edit all the photos by Wednesday so I can pick my favorite ones for this post!
This week, I have decided to focus on facial expressions! Since I have only shot soccer games this weekend, all the following photos are action shots.
So without further due, here are my favorite photos from Saturday 9/12 & Sunday 9/13:

Well that's it for now, see you next Wednesday for a few more of my favorite pictures!

Family Portrait Tips

Since I am organizing a Family Portrait Fundraiser for VUSC, I thought this might be a good time to give my clients some tips on how to make their experience and the resulting images successful!

What to wear:

Coordinate but don’t match. Avoid logos, busy patterns and trends that will look dated in years to come. Wear colors that mesh well together but do not compete for attention. Various shades of the same color, neutrals and dark colors work well. Make sure that you are coordinated from head to toe; we might want to take full-length portraits. Since this is a photo session in the park, casual would be best. But most important, remember to dress comfortably. A comfortable person is a happy person!

Consider hairstyles:

Remember that outdoors can be windy. Even mild wind can mess up a delicate hairstyle. Be sure to use lots of hairspray and stick to hairstyles that still look good even if they are a bit imperfect.

If young children are in your group, make sure that they are well rested and fed (although the same goes along for adults!). You can also pack up a favorite snack (something that’s not messy), toys or object of comfort that could be included in the photos.

Bring props!

Consider bringing props to create a theme; how about a blanket and a basket to simulate a picnic? If the whole family likes a certain team, consider posing wearing your favorite team’s jersey! If you have a musical family, bring your instruments! You get the idea… I always like to include some fun shots at the end of a session.

I hope these simple tips help you prepare. If you have a special request or a question, do not hesitate to contact me before your session! After all, we want to spend as much time as possible shooting… in my experience, the more I shoot, the more the people in the photos start to relax. And the more relaxed everyone is, the better the photo!

iheartface contest entry - Contemplative

This weeks photo challenge is titled: Contemplative. iheartfaces defines contemplative as: thoughtful observation; full or deep consideration; dreamily or wistfully thoughtful: a pensive mood; expressing or revealing thoughtfulness; quiet modes of apparent or real thought; can be marked by some sadness, but doesn't have to be.
Here is a photo of Christina taken last Fall during one of our hike at Live Oak. It was such a beautiful day and we stopped to take a few shots. While I was adjusting my camera onto a tripod, Christina started to look around at the trees and birds around us. Here is a shot I took while she wasn't looking at me and I have to say, this is one of my favorite! Who says our subjects should be looking at the camera... some of my best shots are taken when my subject is not looking at me or when he/she isn't expecting to be photographed!

Family Portrait Fundraiser

Fall is almost upon us and this means it is time for family portraits! In the past few years, I have been so busy with soccer season, school, work, etc. that I have waited at the last minute to get my family portrait done. So I have pledged to myself and my family to get them done as soon as possible. And to get into the spirit of family portrait, I have also organized a Family Portrait Fundraiser for VUSC BU13 Black (Nicholas' soccer team). I am offering this very special deal to raise much needed funds for the team.
With their new season beginning this weekend, the team had to spend most of their funds on new uniforms and are in need of more money to pay for monthly expenses such as referee fees, tournament fees, etc. I am offering this special for a limited time only and I hope that many families will take advantage of this great deal!
So contact me as soon as possible to book your family portrait session and remember that your booking fee and all profit from print sales will go directly to VUSC BU13 Black.

Thousand Oaks Classic

This weekend, Valley United participated in the Thousand Oaks Classic. This was their first club tournament and they performed extremely well. They won their first game 2-0 against Real SoCal, won the second game 5-1 against Thousand Oaks and tied their third game 0-0 against Simi Valley Kickers. Unfortunately, they missed the finals by one point! But overall, a very good beginning for the boys!

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the weekend:
Trevor scored the first goal of the first game!

Zack scored the second goal!

5 different players contributed to the score of the second game; Ariel was one of them.

I love to capture the celebrations and the smiles on the boys faces!
And now, here are some action shots!
