iheartfaces contest entry - "texture"

This week at iheartfaces the theme is "texture". I tend to keep my post processing simple and adding texture is just not what I do. Instead, I like to find texture within nature. This is a photo of Christina, a friend of a friend who gladly posed for us last Spring. Before the photoshoot, I scouted out the location and found this beautiful, large tree. I loved the texture of the bark and knew I wanted to use it as a background.

"We Are Family" - iheartfaces contest

This week at iheartfaces it's "We Are Family" week. I have a lot of family portraits of other family's but I have to admit that my own family portraits usually consists of my three kids! Sometimes, the dogs are included and once in a while, my husband makes an appearance in the picture! This one was taken on his birthday... he didn't have much choice but to be included! One of my New Year's resolution is to include myself into more photos. But in the mean time, here is my family: Christina, Anthony, Allan and Nicholas.

iheartface contest entry - "Halloween Dress-Up"

The theme this week, at iheartfaces is "Halloween Dress-Up". I love taking photos at Halloween; the costumes are so colorful, and the kids are usually pretty good sports about taking photos because they want to show off their costumes! I chose this photo from Halloween 2007 because it's the last Halloween portrait of all three of my kids together.
Last year Nicholas broke his arm a few weeks before Halloween and decided that he was not going to dress up and go trick or treating! I was a little sad but I figured he will have a few more year to enjoy Halloween. So I am looking forward to next weekend when all three kids dress-up again and let me take a whole bunch or pictures of them!

Anthony was dressed up as a "hobo", Nicholas was a "dead buckaneer" and Christina was an "Asian Princess".

iheartface contest entry - "Pink Week"

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this week's theme at iheartfaces is "Pink Week". And I wish I had a clever or profound photograph to remind us of all the women who have been touched by this disease, but I don't. So instead, I am posting a photo of my daughter Christina, last Halloween. She was dressed like a Diva, all in pink and was truly acting like one when I took this shot!

Now go on and visit iheartfaces and check out more "Pink Week" entries.

iheartface contest entry - excited!

This week's contest at iheartfaces is excited! And I knew right away which photo I wanted to enter. This is a photo of my son Nicholas and his friend Trevor getting excited after a goal. I have to admit, my boy is very competitive and very expressive and he is always the first to congratulate his team mates after they score a goal.

iheartface contest entry - Contemplative

This weeks photo challenge is titled: Contemplative. iheartfaces defines contemplative as: thoughtful observation; full or deep consideration; dreamily or wistfully thoughtful: a pensive mood; expressing or revealing thoughtfulness; quiet modes of apparent or real thought; can be marked by some sadness, but doesn't have to be.
Here is a photo of Christina taken last Fall during one of our hike at Live Oak. It was such a beautiful day and we stopped to take a few shots. While I was adjusting my camera onto a tripod, Christina started to look around at the trees and birds around us. Here is a shot I took while she wasn't looking at me and I have to say, this is one of my favorite! Who says our subjects should be looking at the camera... some of my best shots are taken when my subject is not looking at me or when he/she isn't expecting to be photographed!

iheartfaces -Nostalgia

This week's theme is "Nostalgia". For me, Christmas photos are usually nostalgic. There are so many memories associated with the holidays. And last year, my final project for a photography class I took at the local college was titled "Vintage Christmas". I researched the different Christmas Traditions of each past decades, from the 30's to the 70's. I tried to recreate the home decor and Christmas decorations from those decades. I even found clothes that matched the clothes kids wore during those days. But when I photographed my kids playing games from the 70's, I became very nostalgic. After all, I was raised in the 70's!
So here is my entry for this week's challenge: a photo of Christina and Anthony, playing "Twister".

iheartfaces entry

Found this great website on Facebook and decided to participate in the weekly contest. This weeks theme is "The Beach". Now for me, this was incredibly difficult since we go to the beach A LOT and I have tons of photos! But I decided to enter this one of Christina and Nicholas, taken earlier in July.

If you want to see more entry in this weeks contest and maybe enter a photo yourself, you should definitely check out the iheartfaces website. And don't forget to leave me some comments about this photo...
